NaPoWriMo 2021· Poetry· Prompt Writing

3 Apr

The first time we sang together
we started singing along to
some song or other
and it turns out you and I
had somehow always
picked different parts
so that when we sing
with Jimmy or James or,
to be honest, with anyone at all,
there is three-part harmony.
We are hymn singers by training,
by passion, by default, by history,
and blending comes as naturally
as loving each other.

This was written as part of National Poetry Writing Month 2021, sparked by the NaPoWriMo prompt for April 3 to write a poem using a personal universal deck.
